About Our Church
St. Andrew’s began as the German Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1883. It
was comprised of German families settling in the Dexter area. In 1934,
the Evangelical Synod combined with the Reformed Church to become the
Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1957 they merged with the
Congregational Church becoming the United Church of Christ.
We are a friendly church with a beautiful Sanctuary. We are a church
family not just a congregation. Here you will find fellowship, Christian
love and comfort. We hope you will be encouraged to grow in your faith
with St. Andrew’s. |

Our Roots and Connections…
Originally a congregation of Germans in
1875, with roots in the German Evangelical and Reformed traditions, as
well as Lutheran, we became members of the German Evangelical Church
(not to be confused with today’s understanding of evangelicals). In the
1930’s the Evangelical Church and the Reformed Church merged to create
the Evangelical and Reformed Church—similar in nature to Presbyterian,
Congregational, and Baptist traditions.
In 1957 the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged with
the Congregational Christian Church to be known as the United Church of
Christ. We are Evangelical, Reformed, Congregational, and ecumenical.
Our present building was completed in 1974. Our first structure is now
the Town Museum.
The Dexter
community is quickly growing and offers an excellent school system.
Dexter still enjoys a “hometown” feeling with an attractive downtown,
while enjoying a close proximity to Ann Arbor and the University of
Michigan.

Who are we?
We are a gathering
of families and individuals ranging from infant to adults. Some are
single. Many are married. Some are widows and widowers. Some are young
adults.
We are students,
professionals, business people, teachers, craft persons. We are
technicians, farmers, retirees. We have come together because we share
similar beliefs.
We believe in the
responsibility of each person to develop their faith. Our faith is formed
by: Scriptures, beliefs of others, and our personal experience of God.
We believe in God,
Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church and its mission to serve others.
The Lord’s Supper is a memorial meal to which all people are invited.
Baptism is the initiation into the Christian life. |
